[Medium Modular Squares]

Most of the boxes shown on this page were made from scrapbook paper, either bought as an 8 1/2 in by 11 in pad, or as a 12 in square pad, or as 12 in square open stock sheets -- then cut down to 8 1/2 in square sheets.

However, a few of these boxes were made from origami paper, or from Handmade art paper, like the butterfly-topped box at right.

Each box required 8 sheets of paper -- 4 units for the lid and another 4 units for the base, with each unit folded from one sheet. (A butterfly requires an additional sheet.)

Scrapbook paper is more difficult to work with than traditional origami paper because it is thicker and stiffer, but those same qualities make it ideal for boxes intended to contain heavier gifts. The boxes shown here could hold candy, cookies, jewelry, a scarf, gloves, perfume, scented soaps, a wallet, note cards, an address book, a belt, a tie, a small photo frame, knick-knacks, etc.
