The self-closing cubic boxes shown on this page do not have a separate lid and base. The whole structure of each box is formed from a single sheet of paper.
 
These boxes are closed by manipulating four flaps which interweave or overlap in various ways, ranging from very simple to highly intricate. They are opened by gently undoing the top flaps.
 
Double-sided paper works best for the types of boxes shown here.
 
Designers include Antje Vagt, whose Blaettchen boxes are shown at left, and Christiane Bettens (Mélisande), whose Bodleian boxes are shown at right.
