Comments: | This type of non-modular hexagonal box is very challenging to make because of the many precise pre-creases required and the use of a tricky "twist-down" technique. Scoring the pre-creases helps a lot, but not all paper can withstand scoring. The beautiful Yuzen paper used here performed very well, taking creases neatly without any breakthrough at the intersection of multiple creases. This box would be particularly appropriate as a wedding or anniversary gift because of its flying crane motifs. In traditional Japanese culture, the crane is a symbol of fidelity, because cranes mate for life. However, cranes are also symbolic of good health, happiness, peace, prosperity, and longevity -- making this box a lovely and thoughtful gift for many different occasions. |
