Comments: | This type of non-modular hexagonal box is very challenging to make because of the many precise pre-creases required and the use of a tricky "twist-down" technique. Scoring the pre-creases helps a lot, but not all paper can withstand scoring. The Yuzen paper used here performed very well, taking creases neatly without any breakthrough at the intersection of multiple creases. The Lokta paper was bulkier and a more difficult to fold than the Yuzen paper, but its heavier weight and stiffness made for sturdy bases on the two boxes where it was used. Tomoko Fuse's instructions are based on the use of A4 size paper, but it is possible to use sheets with other dimensions, making boxes that vary greatly in width and/or height. Note the differences in height of the boxes in this set of three (shown in the side view image at left.) |
