Comments: | Each of these lovely bowls is made by overlapping two square sheets of paper and folding the combined sheets in non-modular fashion. To begin, one of the square sheets is rotated 45 degrees and then laid on the unrotated square. Only one side of the top (rotated) sheet will show in the final model, so single-sided paper could be used for the top sheet. However, both sides of the bottom (unrotated) sheet will show in the final model, so double-sided paper is recommended for that. The top sheet appears as the interior of the bowl and four of the little flaps around the rim. One side of the bottom sheet appears as the lower exterior walls and floor of the bowl. The other side of the bottom sheet appears as four of the little flaps around its rim. As you can see, this model provides enjoyable opportunities for experimenting with different combinations of prints and solid colors. Although the process may sound a bit complicated, it really isn't -- the designer's diagrams/instructions are clear and easy to follow. These bowls are sturdier than some of the other round origami bowls I have folded. They are practical, attractive, and quick to make. When folded from 7.5 cm (3 in) sheets, these containers are just the right size to be used as eggholders -- great for displaying decorated Easter eggs. |
