Comments: | These cute little pentagons were among the very first non-modular boxes I ever tried to make. As a result, the folding is a little crude in spots. I found the "twist down" method of forming the base to be particularly challenging, especially with the scrapbook paper used here, which is thicker/stiffer than regular origami paper. Tomoko Fuse specifies A4 paper (210 mm by 297 mm) for non-modular pentagons, but I created this set with paper from an 8 1/2 by 11 inch pad. Tomoko's instructions do allow for significant adjustments to the sheet size and, thus, the dimensions of the finished box. By experiment, I discovered that it was possible (and easy) to vary the dimensions even more than the adjustments shown in her book, resulting in boxes of many different sizes. Note how much taller the box with the vertical red stripes is than the box with the horizontal red stripes. |
