Comments:Chrissy Pushkin gives the flower bowls shown here a difficulty rating of five stars -- the highest difficulty level in her book.

These bowls are challenging to make because of all the precise pre-creasing required and because of a tricky sink fold which exposes the reverse side of the paper as a little star-shape sticking up inside the bowl at its center.

You can fiddle around with this star-shape to make it wider/shorter or narrower/taller. If desired, you can flatten the star-shape completely to create a pentagon-shape. All of these variations are included here.

These bowls could be used as decorations for Dia de Muertos -- Day of the Dead -- which is celebrated throughout Mexico and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere.

The holiday involves people gathering to pray for and remember their friends and family members who have died. It is not viewed as a time of sadness but as a joyful celebration.
