Comments: | The masu boxes shown here reflect Mari Ono's modification of a traditional design. She recommends specific dimensions for trimming the size of the base sheet, in order to get a base which is slightly smaller than its lid. The more traditional way to accomplish this involves folding the base sheet in a somewhat different manner than the lid sheet. With Ono's trimming modification, the lid and base can both be folded in exactly the same manner. For this set of boxes, I have added diagonal dividers which are both functional and decorative. They strengthen the bases and create triangle-shaped compartments. The dividers will not fall out because of a very snug fit. However, they are not glued in place, so they can be removed quickly and easily if not needed. |
