Comments: | I made these non-modular square boxes for a birthday party where I used them to present some gift cards to my great-nieces. A variety of sizes are featured here. In the side view, you can see that the box with vertical stripes is much taller and skinnier than others in the set. Also compare the height of the lid on this tall box to the shallow, delicate lid of the box at the far left of the photo. Tomoko Fuse specifies A4 paper (210 mm by 297 mm) for making non-modular square boxes, but instructions allow for significant adjustments to the dimensions of the sheets used and, thus, to the dimensions of the finished product.
By trial and error, I found that the sheet size could be varied even beyond what is shown in her book. I made these boxes from scrapbook paper which came in a 12 inch square pad (305 mm square), cutting each sheet to different sizes as desired. All of the starting sheets were rectangles like A4 paper, but they did not always have the same height-width ratio as A4 paper. I ruined a few sheets of paper along the way, but what fun to experiment! |
