| Comments: | Aizome is the Japanese word for indigo dye and here it refers to the distinctive deep blue color which makes this particular type of origami paper so rich-looking.
Indigo is among the oldest dyes to be used for textile dyeing and printing. Indigo became especially important in Japan during the Edo period (1603 - 1868) when using silk was forbidden, so the Japanese began to use cotton, which was difficult to dye except with indigo. |
