Comments:Non-modular octagonal boxes like this one are very challenging to make because of the many precise pre-creases required and the use of a tricky "twist-down" technique.

If you have already mastered Tomoko Fuse's non-modular hexagon boxes, then these octagons will be easier; many of the folds/steps are very similar.

Scoring the pre-creases helps a lot, but requires a type of paper strong enough to take scoring without tearing and to hold sharp creases without breakthrough at corners.

The lokta paper used here met those requirements in addition to having an interesting texture and being imprinted with a rich-looking pattern of green and gold ferns.
