Special Report: 2025 Pacific Coast Origami Convention

Sacramento, October 31 - November 2
Teresa attended the recent Pacific Coast Origami Conference (also known as PCOC or Peacock), a biannual event held by OrigamiUSA. It was fantastic! From presentations by special guests Jun Maekawa and Michelle Fung, to origami classes and lectures, to a mind-blowing exhibition of complex origami models, to late-night folding, to networking with fellow folders, to a well-stocked convention store provided by Paper Tree, to a book signing by origami authors, to a delicious banquet with delightful entertainment -- everything about this event was a joy to experience. Held at the Sheraton Grand in Sacramento, this gathering of origami enthusiasts was educational, inspiring, uplifting, and just plain fun!

So many different classes were offered -- simple, intermediate, and complex -- that Teresa found it difficult to decide which ones were her top priority to request. Over the course of three days, she went to ten folding classes, meeting some wonderful teachers and learning how to make many new models. Some examples of items she folded at the convention are shown below.
Models Folded by Teresa at PCOC 2025 From right to left:
  • three-unit cube, designed and taught by Jun Maekawa
  • holiday tree, designed and taught by Michelle Fung
  • Sakura blossom, designed by Yara Yagi and taught by Janet Yelle
  • wet-folded squirrel, designed and taught by Anne LaVin
  • Pyroeis flower/star, designed and taught by Anita Reinehr.
Teresa also learned how to make: an acorn box, designed by Kariya Tomoya and taught by Kayo Kurata; Baggi's Package, designed by Guiseppe Baggi, with a closure designed by Carlos Bocanegra, taught by Patricia Grodner; a twirl kusudama designed by Krystyna Burczyk and taught by Jon McKellar; Stern Franziska, a modular star designed by Carmen Sprung and taught by Mae Dean Erb; Shining Star, designed by Ayako Kawate and taught by Arlene Gorchov; and a modular Clematis flower, designed by Yara Yagi and taught by PRPLE Miller. The Clematis is shown at right.

In addition to her folding classes, Teresa also attended a helpful lecture class on origami diagramming, taught by Chris Alexander. Another highlight of her convention experience was meeting origami designer Ekaterina Lukasheva and getting her autograph on Modular Origami Kaleidoscope, one of Lukasheva's books.

Teresa's sister-in-law Julie accompanied her to PCOC 2025 and both agreed that it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. They are both hoping to join forces again at PCOC 2027 in Seattle. See you there, too?
