The winning items included a non-modular hexagonal box designed by Tomoko Fuse, some five-pointed stars designed by Leyla Torres, and an origami rose designed by Toshikazu Kawasaki. The box was formed from two rectangular sheets of Yuzen Chiyogami Washi paper -- one sheet for the lid and one for the base. The Fluted Flower Crest decoration on the lid features curls and curves achieved by using a wet folding technique.
The Kawasaki Rose was created from two square sheets of foil-backed Momigami paper -- a larger sheet and a much smaller sheet. After folding a rose from the larger sheet, another rose was folded from the much smaller sheet, and then the smaller rose was nested inside the larger rose. Each of the Estrela Sothis star was folded from a single pentagonal sheet of double-sided craft paper with a matte red surface on one side and a metallic gold surface on the other side. All of these items were made without the use of glue, tape, or any other adhesive.

Shown at far left is a kusudama designed by Katerina Lukasheva. This modular ornament was assembled from 30 units, with each unit being folded from a small rectangular sheet of paper.
Also shown here are a non-modular bowl designed by Kazukuni Endo and a set of four napkin rings with heart motifs, based on a non-modular design by Francis Ow. The bowl was formed from a single large square sheet of double-sided scrapbook paper featuring Hanukkah motifs. Each napkin ring was created from a single rectangular sheet of double-sided origami paper.
All of these items were hand-folded by Teresa without the use of glue or any other adhesive. The items retain their shapes because of interlocking folds and/or the use of tabs inserted into pockets.

Star Arisa Variations and Petals Kusudama

One Blue Ribbon was earned by a set of variations of Nobuko Okabe's Star Arisa -- shown at left. Each of the four stars was assembled from eight units. The set as a whole illustrates how making minor changes in the folding of the basic unit can significantly alter the final appearance of a modular origami model.
A second Blue Ribbon was awarded for a kusudama named Petals, designed by Tomoko Fuse -- shown at left and below. This is a "face-and-base" kusudama made by folding and assembling 30 units from 60 small rectangular sheets of paper. Each unit is formed by folding a "face" from one sheet, folding a "base" from another sheet, and then inserting the face into the base. Each finished unit has a tab-like part and a pocket-like part. The units are assembled with icosahedral symmetry by inserting tabs into pockets.
A third Blue Ribbon was earned by a holiday tree called Bialbero di Natale, designed by Francesco Guarnieri -- shown below. The tree has six units in graduated sizes. It is assembled by stacking/nesting the units, which are then held together by gravity.
All of these modular origami items were hand-folded and assembled by Teresa without the use of glue or any other adhesive.

Shown at far left is a large three-dimensional modular star (Stern) designed by Paolo Bascetta.
Also shown here are a modular Valentine's Day wreath (Ghirlanda di Cuori) and a set of eight Valentine's Day Gift Boxes, some modular and some non-modular, in a variety of shapes and sizes. The wreath was designed by Francesco Guarnieri. The boxes were designed by Mark Bolitho, Tomoko Fuse, and Ayako Kawate.
All of these items were hand-folded by Teresa without the use of glue or any other adhesive. The items retain their shapes because of interlocking folds and/or the use of tabs inserted into pockets.
