Comments: | Mark Bolitho's Pekoe unit is a flexible module which can be used to make three different shapes of boxes. The basic unit is made in 8 folding steps. By altering the last step slightly, it is possible to produce units for either a square box, a pentagonal box, or a hexagonal box. The pentagonal version is shown here. These boxes feature an interesting recessed "iris" effect. The lid and base are essentially the same, which makes for a tight fit. If you desire a looser fit between lid and base, make the units for the base from sheets of paper slighty smaller than those used for the lid. Double-sided paper works best for this style of box because so much of the reverse side of the paper is revealed in the finished model. Two of the boxes shown here were part of a set of Valentine's Day gift boxes which received a Blue Ribbon in the Arts & Crafts judging at the 2022 Charlotte County Fair in Florida. The set contained eight boxes of various sizes and shapes, all made from Valentine-themed paper. |
