Intermediate Origami Class at Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens

Learn origami in a beautiful setting!
November Class

On November 18, 2025, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, Teresa will be teaching an origami class for intermediate-level folders at the Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens* in Punta Gorda, Florida. This class and other origami-related activities are being offered in conjunction with a special event called Origami in the Garden.

Origami in the Garden* is a globally celebrated outdoor sculpture exhibition that transforms the ancient art of paper folding into awe-inspiring, large scale metal sculptures. Presented by renowned Santa Fe artists Jennifer and Kevin Box, this exhibit gracefully weaves together artistic expression, mythological storytelling, and the natural beauty of our botanical landscape. The exhibition is open now and will continue through April 19, 2026.

The November 18th class is designed for teens, adults and seniors who already have basic origami skills and are ready to take their craft to the next level. Together, we'll create some attractive and practical gift boxes for the Winter Holidays.

Using a modular approach designed by Tomoko Fuse, three different box lids can be created from the exact same origami units just by assembling them in slightly varied ways. Teresa will teach two lids and demonstrate a third, as well as teaching a base to use with the lids and an optional divider to insert in the base. Beautiful origami paper will be provided, so come and learn how to make a gift box that is a meaningful gift in itself!

Teresa would love to see you in her class at the Gardens, but please consider visiting this amazing place even if you are not interested in learning origami. If you have been to the Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens before, you will surely want to return again during this special exhibition. If you have never been to these Gardens before, now is a wonderful time to explore them.

October Class

On October 21, 2025, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, Teresa taught an origami class for intermediate-level folders at the Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens* in Punta Gorda, Florida.

At the October class, three projects were taught: an flower-shaped bowl designed by Endo Kazukuni, a partitioned plate designed by Makoto Yamaguchi, and a Sugar Skull designed by Steven Casey. Halloween-themed paper was provided for creating the bowl and plate; special origami paper featuring motifs associated with Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) was provided for creating the Sugar Skull.

In addition to teaching these origami models, Teresa presented a short biographical sketch of Makoto Yamaguchi, gave a brief talk about the Day of the Dead celebration, and discussed some of the differrent types of paper commonly used for origami.
