The larger number is the measurement from any corner point to the opposite corner (Diagram A).
 
The smaller number is the measurement from any corner point to the center of the opposite side (Diagram B).

Comments:Pentagonal boxes are a little easier to make than hexagons or octagons, although more difficult than squares.
 
Double-sided paper, as used here, produces the best looking pentagons.
 
The lids on these boxes are Tomoko Fuse's Lid A everted (turned inside out), so that the pattern which would usually appear on the inside of her Lid A appears on the outside instead.
 
This set of two boxes illustrates how the width of the pentagon base can be adjusted during the folding process, producing either a snug fit with the lid (box on left) or a looser fit (box on right). I prefer the snug fit.
 
Note that making the base narrower also makes it deeper. As you can see from the side view, one box is slightly deeper/taller than the other.
