Comments: | These cute party trays are more oblong-shaped than rectangular, but I don't have a separate category yet for oblongs, so I am placing them here with the non-modular rectangles. These kashizara are so easy and quick to fold that you might want to make them in sets of six or eight. As shown at left, they will stack/nest nicely for storage. You can also store them flat by skipping the final opening/shaping step during the original folding process, and then applying that last step when you are actually ready to use the party trays. You can shape the "handles" of the tray according to your own preference by rolling them back a little or a lot. Rolling the "handles" back a lot will result in a shorter but deeper tray. Rolling them back only a little will result in a longer but shallower tray. Single-sided paper has been used for the Kashizara shown here, but double-sided paper would look better, since so much of the reverse side of the paper is visible on the bottom surface of the tray. The paper used here was a bit heavier and stiffer than most origami paper, which resulted in a useful, sturdy tray. For bigger trays, just use bigger sheets -- some types of scrapbook paper might work well. Mari Ono suggests using water-proof cooking or parchment paper, so that the trays can simply be thrown out with the leftovers, making party clean up easier. |
