Comments:I made these non-modular rectangular boxes using two different types of scrapbook paper: an 8 1/2 by 11 inch (216 by 279 mm) pad, and a 12 inch (305 cm) square pad. I cut my sheets to the size I needed, based on the desired dimensions for the finished box.

Tomoko Fuse specifies A4 size paper (210 mm by 297 mm) for this type of box, but her instructions allow for significant adjustments to those dimensions.

The phrase "With Ears" in the name of this style refers to the small triangular flaps inside the lid, which stick out a little bit beyond the edges of the lid. You can also see these triangular flaps inside the base, but if the base is deep, then the "ears" will not stick out above the edges of the base.

The plain rectangle base is easy to make and so is the plain rectangle lid -- but it's appearance is not very interesting, which is why I have added a knob to the top of one box and an origami butterfly to the top of another. Both decorations were attached by slipping them into a slit which occurs as part of the original lid design. A dab of rubber cement makes the attachment more secure.
