Comments: | Non-modular pentagons like these are challenging to make for two reasons: the number of precise pre-creases needed and the use of a tricky "twist-down" technique. Using scrapbook paper, as I have done here, increases the challenge because scrapbook paper is typically thicker/stiffer than origami paper.
Tomoko Fuse specifies A4 paper (210 mm by 297 mm) for non-modular pentagons, but I created this set with paper from an 8 1/2 by 11 inch pad. Tomoko's instructions do allow for significant adjustments to the sheet size and, thus, the dimensions of the finished box. By experiment, I discovered that it was possible (and easy) to vary the dimensions even more than the adjustments shown in her book, resulting in boxes of many different sizes.
Of all the boxes in this set, the most difficult one to construct was the Concave Star -- although the Tower was also pretty hard. |
