Comments: | Non-modular octagonal boxes like these are very challenging to make because of the many precise pre-creases required and the use of a tricky "twist-down" technique. If you have already mastered Tomoko Fuse's non-modular hexagon boxes, then these octagons will be easier; many of the folds/steps are very similar. Scoring the pre-creases helps a lot, and the types of papers used here are strong enough to take scoring without tearing and to hold sharp creases without breakthrough at corners. It is a real pleasure to work with beautiful, strong washi papers like these. Some of the paper featured here was a gift from my friend Marcianna. |
