Comments: | These festive holiday boxes were inspired by some wonderful Rossi Letterpress paper which I received as a birthday gift. This paper is made in Italy by Rossi 1931, a family-owned company in Florence. The sheets are printed one at a time on a traditional letterpress machine by a process which is time and labor intensive. Motifs are set in reverse on a plate which is then inked and pressed onto the paper. This process not only transfers the ink but also leaves a deep impression on the paper, creating a delightful three-dimensional effect. Hot stamping adds golden highlights to the design. Rossi 1931 uses high quality paper containing fibers that are soft enough to readily accept an impression but strong enough not to tear or thin during the pressing process. This paper is a bit bulkier than what I normally use for origami, but it produces boxes which are both elegant and sturdy. |
