Comments:These self-closing boxes do not have separate lids and bases. The whole structure of each box is formed from a single sheet of paper.

This type of box is closed by overlapping each top flap with the next, tucking the tip of the final flap under the first. The box is opened by simply undoing these flaps.

Double-sided paper works best for this style of box because the exterior flaps reveal the reverse side of the paper, as does the whole interior.

In the photo shown here, Mari Ono's Cake Boxes have been enhanced by the addition of Double Fan Rosettes designed by Tomoko Fuse. These rosettes were folded from small scraps of the same type of paper used to make the boxes.

The center of each rosette was sewn to the center of a flat button. While closing each box, the edges of its overlapping flaps were inserted between the rosette and the button, so that the decoration serves as a lid stopper.

The Cake Box model will stay closed without a stopper, but it does not close tightly. The closure is more secure with a stopper in place -- and the rosette decoration certainly adds great beauty to this type of box.
