Comments: | Makoto Yamaguchi created the designs for these boxes, which I constructed from a kit containing instructions/diagrams and sheets of double-sided origami paper printed in an unusual manner to create special visual effects. This paper also has cutting and folding lines printed on it. For many of these boxes, each unit is folded from a rectangular piece of paper measuring 15 cm by 7.5 cm -- obtained by cutting a standard 15 cm (5 7/8 in) sheet of paper in half. Double-sided solid color paper for the base was also included in the kit; it was a bit difficult to use because of its heavy weight/thickness. Although I had a lot of fun with this kit, I would not recommend it to absolute beginners. Even with the specially printed lines to help, these models were very challenging. The square with windmill vanes on its lid is probably the easiest of the bunch. |
