Comments:The theme of this set of boxes is definitely tsuru -- cranes. Two of the lids incorporate three-dimensional folded cranes, while the other two lids feature papers with patterns of flying cranes.

Note that the three-dimensional cranes are NOT created separately and then attached after construction of the lid; instead, they are integral to the design of the lid itself.

Cranes are an important symbol in Japanese culture, traditionally representing good fortune, long life, and fidelity. After World War II, they came to symbolize hope for peace and healing.
