Comments: | This box was awarded a Blue Ribbon in the Papercrafting category at the 2017 Charlotte County Fair in Florida. Non-modular octagonal boxes like this one are very challenging to make because of the many precise pre-creases required and the use of a tricky "twist-down" technique. If you have already mastered Tomoko Fuse's non-modular hexagon boxes, then these octagons will be easier; many of the folds/steps are very similar. Scoring the pre-creases helps a lot, if the type of paper used is strong enough to take scoring without tearing and to hold sharp creases without breakthrough at corners. The box shown here is the middle-sized box in a nested set of three. All three boxes use paper featuring pink cherry blossoms, so this is definitely a spring-themed set. |
